Chennai: DMK said on Monday that there was no need for the party to join the protest against chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar (CEC) in New Delhi as it was waging its own battle against SIR.“We have exited the INDIA bloc after Congress betrayed us and acted against alliance dharma for the sake of a cabinet berth. There is no need for us to join their protests hereafter, and they have no right to compel us to do so,” DMK said in a statement, adding that the party would follow a different path from now on.DMK also questioned the Congress for opposing SIR nationally, even as it extended support to TVK govt that detained students protesting against Gyanesh KumarEarlier, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore questioned DMK’s stand on SIR before and after the election results. He said before the election, DMK had claimed that it had prevented irregularities in SIR thanks to its block level agents. “But now it alleges that their election defeat was due to SIR’’ he said and questioned the absence of DMK MPs in the protest against Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi.Hitting back, DMK said Congress has no moral right to raise the question.“Why hasn’t CM Vijay spoken about SIR and Gyanesh Kumar so far? Is he a part of the Congress alliance or not? Why hasn’t Manickam Tagore questioned him? Before the assembly elections, Manickam Tagore destabilised the strong anti-BJP alliance in TN with his arrogant speech. He has now again displayed his insolence,” DMK said in the statement posted on X.
