CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Monday granted leave to the DMK to move a suit seeking Rs 1.01 crore in damages for defamation against Tamil Nadu ministers Aadhav Arjuna and C T R Nirmal Kumar, and the TVK IT Wing, for allegedly accusing the party of shielding granite baron R Veeramani in a child rape case. The DMK also wanted the court to restrain the ministers from making such defamatory statements forthwith.Justice K Govindarajan Thilakavadi passed the order while allowing an application seeking leave to move the civil suit. The plea was moved by party general secretary Durai Murugan on behalf of the DMK. According to the DMK, the ministers have been making baseless and defamatory statements with a view to extracting political mileage ahead of the by-elections to Madurantakam and Dharapuram, and to cover up the failure of the government. The party added that an FIR was registered on October 7, 2025, in connection with the case within a day of receiving the complaint, thereby showing that the police had acted promptly. The facts clearly showed that the police department had taken appropriate action in accordance with the law, and there was no delay or interference on the part of the plaintiff, who had no role in or interference with the investigation.
