CHENNAI: The CBI has arrested Sushil Kumar Garg, deputy director (airworthiness) of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Chennai, and Sachin Keshav Bhane, director of Salem-based Ekvi Air Training Organisation Pvt Ltd, in an alleged bribery case, officials said.According to the CBI, a case has been registered against Garg, Bhane, the company and others over an alleged demand and acceptance of illegal gratification for extending undue favour in the airworthiness certification of aircraft operated by the company. Garg allegedly accepted Rs 2.5 lakh as illegal gratification, the agency said.According to the official website of Ekvi Air Training Organisation, which trains aspirants to obtain commercial pilot licences, it has a fleet of seven aircraft, including Cessna 152, Cessna 172, DA42 and Tecnam P2006T, all used for training purposes.The CBI had received inputs regarding the alleged bribe demand, following which it registered an FIR and initiated action. Both Garg and Bhane have been taken into custody, and the agency is seeking further legal custody for questioning.
