Chennai: Meenambakkam crime wing inspector C Mahesh Kumar, who during his stint in Anti-Vice Squad (AVS) had investigated the child rape case against granite baron R Veeramani in 2025, was shunted out and kept without posting on Saturday. An order issued by Chennai city commissioner of police said the transfer, which would take immediate effect, had been done on ‘administrative grounds’.The order directed the joint commissioner of police, south zone, to relieve Mahesh from duty with an instruction that he report to Chennai city police control room.Mahesh had served as an AVS inspector in 2025 when an NGO submitted a complaint against Veeramani along with a pen drive containing a video clip showing Veeramani raping a child.
