COIMBATORE: Kovilpalayam police chased a car for nearly 40km and arrested a group of smugglers after one of the policemen reportedly travelled on top of the moving vehicle to prevent the suspects from escaping.The incident occurred on Sunday morning when police received information about the movement of the suspects in a car in the Vilankurichi area. A police team immediately launched a pursuit and chased the vehicle towards Avinashi.During the chase, police managed to get close to the car, and one of the personnel reportedly climbed onto its roof while the vehicle was still moving. The policeman remained on top of the car for several kilometres, attempting to prevent the suspects from fleeing and helping the team bring the vehicle under control.The pursuit continued for nearly 40km before police finally intercepted the car on Avinashi Road. The suspects were overpowered and taken into custody.Police are questioning the arrested persons to ascertain their identities.
