ERODE: Seven people from Tirupur were injured after the car they were travelling in fell into a roadside pit on the Gobichettipalayam-Nambiyur Road in Erode district on Wednesday.The injured have been identified as M Punithavan, 20, Sabareish,21, Preetham,18, Dharshan, 17, S Vijaya Sarathi, 20, Praveen, 23 and Saravana Kumar, 50.The accident happened when the group was returning after visiting Kodiveri dam. Saravana Kumar, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle near the LBP canal in Moonampalli. “The car fell into a pit and was badly damaged. Police and locals rescued the passengers and sent them to Gobichettipalayam Government Hospital. Later, they were referred to Tirupur Government Hospital.“Vijaya Sarathi and Punithavan are in a critical condition,” said an officer at the Gobichettipalayam police station.Police registered a case and were investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. Locals expressed concern over the road near the LBP canal, which is known for sharp turns and an uneven surface.
