ERODE: Former minister and Erode Central district secretary Thoppu ND Venkatachalam has resigned from DMK, relinquishing his basic membership and party responsibilities.Venkatachalam told reporters in Perundurai on Monday that he had sent a letter informing party president and former chief minister M K Stalin of his decision. He thanked the leadership for its trust in him as Perundurai constituency candidate and district secretary.He said bitter experience he had faced as the district secretary and during the assembly elections had deeply affected him and his supporters. “I worked with the determination that this constituency must be won. But despite our hard efforts, we lost the opportunity,” he said.Venkatachalam said he did not intend to join another political party. He said Perundurai people continued to trust him and expected his service. “My service to the people will continue. I will return and do more work for them,” he said.
