CHENNAI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a direct attack on Congress, labelling its decision to restrict the singing of Vande Mataram to just two stanzas as “anti-national.”Responding to Congress Working Committee’s resolution on the national song, Shah accused the party of reviving its decades-old “politics of appeasement.” Shah was speaking to ANI news agency on the sidelines of the South Zone Chief Ministers’ Conference in Mamallapuram. He alleged that Congress split Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s national song in 1937 for Muslim appeasement, effectively laying the groundwork for India’s partition.Shah contrasted the opposition’s stance with that of the Narendra Modi govt, highlighting that the ruling dispensation had legally framed and restored the full version of Vande Mataram to strengthen national unity.Targeting the opposition leadership, Shah expressed surprise over Rahul Gandhi driving this revival of appeasement politics. Shah warned that the country had already paid a heavy historical price for dividing the national song and called on the nation to unite against the decision, asserting that the BJP strongly condemned the move.
