Chennai: Ancient stone inscriptions across the state will be deciphered using artificial intelligence (AI) as part of a ₹1.5-crore project, the TN govt announced in the assembly o nWednesday. The announcement was part of a policy blueprint presented by school education and Tamil development minister A Rajmohan. Under a new Tamil Heritage Conservation Mission, the state will take up conservation and restoration of 76 protected monuments and archaeological sites in the first phase, with an outlay of ₹49 crore. Heritage buildings at the Institute of Advanced Study in Education campus in Saidapet, are among the protected sites. The state will implement a ₹20-crore digital museum project over two years across the Chennai govt museum and 23 district museums. As the Egmore museum marks its 175th anniversary this year, the govt has declared 2026–27 as ‘Visit Museum Year’.
