Mettur dam water level rises by nine feet in 14 days

SALEM: The water level in the Mettur dam rose by nine feet over the past 14 days — from Aug 4 to 17 — to 81.85 feet though the left bank remained dry. Storage in the dam rose by 8.57 tmc feet in the period.The full reservoir level of the dam is 120 feet, with a storage capacity of 93.47 tmc feet. The storage stood at 43.82 tmc feet on Monday.On Aug 4, the water level stood at 72.85 feet with a storage of 35.25 tmc feet. Inflow into the dam, which was 11,988 cusecs on Aug 5, declined since then. It dropped from 6,247 cusecs on Saturday to 4,385.5 cusecs on Sunday. Again, it rose to 8,555 cusecs on Monday.Meanwhile, 2,000 cusecs of water being released for drinking purposes.
