Chennai: Wind power generation in Tamil Nadu has crossed 100 million units (Mu) for the 36th time this year on Thursday, beating the previous record of 35 times in 2025.On Thursday, Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) absorbed 117.65Mu. Though wind power generation picked up only in July — almost a month’s delay compared to last year — it crossed the 100Mu mark 23 times. On Aug 1, wind power generation touched a new all-time high of 142.430Mu in a single day.From April 1 to Aug 13, the discom absorbed 8,491Mu of wind power 13. In July alone, 3,401Mu of wind power was absorbed into the grid.Renewable Energy Producers Association (REPA) said that absorption in 2026 will turn out to be one of the highest, as there is a positive forecast for wind over the coming week. “The wind season started late, in July. If it continues into Sept and if TNPDCL does not curtail generation, we will set new records this year,” said REPA chief advisor K Venkatachalam.
