COIMBATORE: Ahead of the 80th Independence Day, a joint security and anti-sabotage operation was carried out at Podanur Junction railway station here on Friday to prevent untoward incidents and strengthen passenger safety.The 90-minute exercise was conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Govt Railway Police (GRP), the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDS) and the Podanur RPF dog squad from 11am to 12.30pm.Security teams searched platforms, tracks, booking counters, waiting halls and parking zones. Trains passing through the station, notably No 18190 Ernakulam–Tatanagar Express, were searched utilising specialised detection equipment alongside explosive detection sniffer dog Sirvani. Baggage, unclaimed parcels and parked vehicles were screened, while tracks were inspected to rule out sabotage risks.Officers conducted passenger awareness drives, as well. Passengers were urged to remain vigilant, avoid accepting food or drinks from unknown people, protect belongings from theft and report suspicious activity to authorities.No suspicious objects had been found in the operation, officials said.
