4 tonne of banned gutka, pan masala destroyed in Namakkal

Namakkal: Police on Tuesday destroyed nearly four tonne of banned gutka and pan masala products that had been seized over the past four months. The contraband was set ablaze at the Nagarajapuram garbage yard under the supervision of district superintendent of police Yadav Girish Ashok.The banned substances had been confiscated during raids and inspections across the district. Following due procedures, the seized materials were transported to Nagarajapuram and incinerated in the presence of officials.Municipal sanitary inspector Nandhini, food safety inspector S Selvakumar and several municipal staff members were present during the destruction drive.Superintendent of police Yadav Girish Ashok said police were committed to eradicating the menace of banned tobacco products. “We will continue to conduct intensive checks and take strict action against those involved in the sale and distribution of gutka and pan masala,” he said.
