Coimbatore: The city police detained over 30 individuals following a 48-hour intensive crackdown targeting history-sheeters and individuals with criminal backgrounds in the city.The operation which began at 8am on Friday was completed at 8am on Sunday. Led by deputy commissioners of police, teams across all city limits conducted raids at the residences of category ‘B’ and category ‘C’ history-sheeters. Assistant commissioners, inspectors, and nearly 1,000 personnel were deployed across station limits for the operation.“There are 177 category ‘B’ history-sheeters and 726 category ‘C’ history-sheeters on record in Coimbatore City, with repeated involvement in minor offences, said a senior police officer, adding that the special raid was ordered to curb such activities.Those picked up during the raid are being interrogated to determine any involvement in recent crimes or other illegal activities. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings and their current activities.Police teams are also working to arrest absconding suspects in assault and related cases. In addition, strict vehicle checks have been ordered across the city, including verification of number plates, scrutiny of vehicles linked to criminal cases, and checks on suspicious movement. Instructions have also been issued to catch and book drivers found operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
