COIMBATORE: Fourteen newly appointed station officers of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services on Thursday underwent specialised training in operating a sky lift vehicle and conducting high-altitude rescue operations. Trainee officers posted in Coimbatore, Tirupur, the Nilgiris and Dindigul districts participated in the exercise.The practical session was held at the district fire office near Coimbatore Junction railway station under the supervision of district fire officer K Ganesan.The training covers administrative procedures, fire station management, emergency action plans, vehicle maintenance, documentation, station inspections and animal rescue operations. During Thursday’s session, the officers were trained in the mechanics and safety features of the sky lift vehicle, its maintenance requirements and its use in high-rise rescue operations.Fire department officials said the sky lift stationed in Coimbatore could reach a height of 58 metres. It plays a crucial role in rescuing people trapped in multi-storey buildings. Trainee officers posted in the city receive regular operational exposure, while live demonstrations are conducted every Thursday for personnel undergoing training in nearby districts.As many as 121 newly recruited station officers in the state have been undergoing foundational and field training in various districts since Jan 20. Five of them are currently posted in Coimbatore.
