Chennai: An elderly woman, 68, and her unmarried 42-year-old son, were murdered at their Anna Nagar East home on Friday, by the woman’s two other sons and family membersHours after the double murder over a property dispute, a total of five people — the murdered woman’s eldest son, Abrar Ahmed, 50, his wife Fousiya Asma, 42, and another son, Asrar Ahmed, 49, besides two of Abrar Ahmed’s children, aged 17 and 15 years — were taken into custody by police.Investigators said the juveniles restrained Ashraf Nisha and her youngest son, a dentist, Ashraf Ahmed, while the adults carried out the killings.Police said the killings stemmed from a dispute over family property.According to the police, the accused opposed a proposal by Ashraf Nisha and Ashraf Ahmed to hand over the property to a builder in exchange for two residential flats, while the remaining family members wanted control of the entire property.On receiving information that both were lying unconscious inside the house on First Avenue, Anna Nagar East, on Friday morning, police rushed to the scene. Investigators initially noticed head injuries on Ashraf Nisha, while Ashraf Ahmed had no external injuries.A postmortem later established that both had died due to strangulation, following which police altered the case to a double murder.Forensic experts examined the house and collected evidence.The three accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The two juveniles were produced before Juvenile Justice Board and admitted to the govt observation home at Kellys.
