Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with wind turbine major Nordex and Zurich-based insurance company Chubb to set up a research and development (R&D) centre and a global capability centre (GCC), respectively.It has also signed an MoU with the University of Western Australia to establish its India campus in Chennai. This will be the first international university campus to be set up in Tamil Nadu under the University Grants Commission (Setting Up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations, 2023. The campus, to be built on approximately 50,000 sq ft in Velachery with an investment of about ₹125 crore, is expected to generate more than 200 jobs.The MoUs were signed on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and senior representatives of the companies at Guidance Tamil Nadu’s office. The investments are expected to generate around 2,920 direct and indirect jobs.Chubb will set up its first GCC in the state, while Nordex, which already has a GCC in Chennai, will establish an R&D centre here. Together, the two projects are expected to generate 1,220 jobs.MotiveLink, a leading South Korean auto components manufacturer, has signed an MoU to set up a manufacturing facility at the Pillaipakkam Industrial Park following Industries Minister Keerthana’s visit to South Korea. The project entails an investment of ₹300 crore and is expected to create 1,500 jobs. A supplier to Hyundai and Kia, the company plans to expand its manufacturing footprint in Tamil Nadu to serve domestic and global OEM customers.These investments are aligned with the government’s objective of promoting innovation-led industrial growth, attracting knowledge-intensive investments and creating high-quality employment opportunities for skilled talent, the state government said.
