Chennai: Two Cathay Pacific flights operating between Chennai and Hong Kong were cancelled after Hong Kong issued weather warnings over typhoon Noul, disrupting the travel plans of hundreds of passengers, including those with onward international connections.The Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong landed at Chennai International Airport at 11.50 pm on Saturday with 217 passengers. The aircraft was scheduled to return to Hong Kong at 12.50am on Sunday carrying 220 passengers, but the departure was cancelled as a precautionary measure due to the typhoon threat.The airline had informed passengers of the cancellation in advance. However, some passengers who did not receive the message arrived at the airport and were later accommodated in hotels across Chennai.

The rescheduled Chennai-Hong Kong flight is expected to depart in the early hours of Monday, airport officials said.Meanwhile, the Cathay Pacific service scheduled to arrive in Chennai from Hong Kong at 11.50pm on Sunday was also cancelled because of the adverse weather conditions.The aircraft that arrived from Hong Kong on Saturday was parked at the remote bay of Chennai airport and will operate the rescheduled service to Hong Kong on Monday.The cancellations also affected passengers travelling beyond Hong Kong, as the flight provides onward connectivity to destinations including London, Tokyo, Melbourne, Seoul and Chicago. Several transit passengers were left stranded following the disruption.
