Chennai: Police have arrested three more accused, including the prime suspect, in connection with the attack on a sub-inspector from Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) near Minjur. Sub-inspector Venkatesh was attacked with a machete on the head two days ago when he and a police team went to Athipattu near Minjur to arrest drug trafficking suspect Boopalan, who had been absconding in a narcotics case. During the operation, Boopalan and his associates assaulted the officer before fleeing the scene.On Monday, the Minjur police arrested Darshan and Banu Osanna near Minjur Railway Station. Darshan suffered a fracture in his right hand while attempting to escape from police.Continuing the investigation, police later arrested history-sheeter Boopalan alias Balan, 27, Razor Ganesh, 29, and Sanjay alias Rahul, 26, of Nungambakkam near Vaithiyanathan Bridge in Korukkupet, Chennai.Investigations revealed that Boopalan was involved in the sale of narcotic tablets sourced from an international drug network and that several criminal cases are pending against him.Police said Boopalan and Razor Ganesh also suffered fractures in their right hands while attempting to flee during their arrest. Both were treated at Stanley Government Hospital.With the latest arrests, five persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on the sub-inspector, and three of the accused are undergoing treatment for hand fractures. Police are continuing their search for a woman who remains absconding in the case.
