GCC extends special property tax collection camps till July 31
Around 7.25 lakh property owners are yet to pay their property tax

Chennai: With nearly half of Chennai’s property owners yet to pay property tax, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has extended its special property tax collection camps till July 31.Of the 14.23 lakh assessed property owners in the city, only 6.98 lakh have paid the tax so far. Around 7.25 lakh property owners are yet to clear their dues.The civic body’s annual property tax collection is around ₹1,800 crore, of which ₹96 crore was collected during the special camps between July 3 and July 15. The drive was originally scheduled to conclude on July 17, but is now extended till July 31. During this period, the corporation will conduct an intensive collection drive to recover pending property tax.Property tax is a key source of revenue for the corporation and is used for essential civic works, including solid waste management and the maintenance of roads, streetlights and parks.The civic body has urged property owners to pay their property tax by the end of the month to avoid penal interest. Payments can be made through the corporation’s website or at special camps functioning across all zones.
