Chennai: IIT Madras wellness centre was awarded ISO 45001:2018 certification by TUV NORD group at a regional two-day workshop on mental wellbeing on the campus held on Sunday and Monday. It made the institute the first centrally funded technical institute in India to receive this internationally recognised certification for occupational health and safety management.The institute said it reflects the institute’s commitment to creating a safe, supportive and healthy campus environment by promoting wellbeing, identifying risks and preventing work-related hazards.“The ISO certification reflects our institutional commitment to making student wellbeing a strategic priority,” IIT Madras director V Kamakoti said in a release.“The Union education ministry has conducted capacity-building programmes for more than 3,000 faculty members across the country. There cannot be one fixed path and there will have to be multiple pathways and different programmes that fit each of the institutes,” said Rina Sonowal Kouli, joint secretary (higher education), Union ministry of education .The southern region mental wellbeing workshop brought together around 200 participants, including faculty members, hostel wardens, administrators and student support professionals from universities and higher educational institutions across the region.
