CHENNAI: The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has invited applications from eligible candidates for the appointment of non-hereditary trustees to 757 temples across Tamil Nadu under its administrative control.The recruitment drive covers 673 temples governed under Section 46(1) of the HR&CE Act and 84 temples under Section 46(2). The appointments are part of the State government’s ongoing exercise to constitute trustee boards for temples managed by the department.According to an official release, the notification has been issued under the guidance of Chief Minister S. Joseph Vijay and HR&CE Minister C. Ramesh. The department has uploaded the notification, the list of temples, eligibility criteria and application forms on its official website.Eligible applicants can submit their applications online or download the prescribed application form from the department’s website and submit it along with the required documents. Completed applications can also be submitted in person or sent by Speed Post to the office of the respective Joint Commissioner.The last date for submitting applications is 5.45 pm on August 12, 2026.The department said it has already initiated the process of appointing non-hereditary trustees to 220 temples covered under Section 46(3) of the Act and 35 temples governed by administrative schemes. Notifications have also been issued for the appointment of district committee members in 14 districts, and the selection process is under way.The HR&CE Department said the exercise aims to fill trustee positions in temples under its control through the appointment of eligible non-hereditary trustees in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
