Chennai: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has arrested a village administrative officer near Madurantakam after he was caught accepting a ₹5,000 bribe to process the transfer of a land patta. The accused was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.Purushothaman had been serving the VAO of Vayaputhur village in Vedanthangal panchayat, Chengalpet district, for the past three months. According to DVAC officials, when advocate Sundara Vadivel approached the VAO for transfer of a land patta, he had demanded ₹5,000 to complete the process.That’s when Sundara Vadivel lodged a complaint with Chengalpet DVAC. Based on his complaint, a team led by deputy superintendent of police Saravanan and inspectors Thiruvenkadam and Chakrabarani set a trap. They gave the complainant chemically treated currency notes and caught Purushothaman as he received the bribe.DVAC officials arrested Purushothaman and produced him before a judicial magistrate court in Madurantakam.
