COIMBATORE: A woman was drugged and robbed of her gold jewellery by a fellow woman passenger on a bus from Erode to Coimbatore on Monday morning.The victim has been identified as R Lakshmi, 55, of Ganapathy. Police said the incident took place around 11am when an unidentified woman, believed to be about 50 years old, sat next to Lakshmi on the bus and offered her a piece of chocolate. Lakshmi initially refused, but the woman repeatedly insisted. Lakshmi ate half of the chocolate and discarded the rest after noticing that it was unusually sticky.The woman gave Lakshmi water to drink. Soon after drinking it, Lakshmi lost consciousness. Police suspect the woman took advantage of the situation, snatched the gold chain and got off the bus.Lakshmi was found unconscious by the crew after the bus reached its destination. They took her to a private hospital on the Avinashi Road for treatment. Based on a complaint filed by Lakshmi’s son, the Peelamedu police registered a case and began an investigation to trace the suspect.
