Coimbatore district administration to hold special grievance meeting for students

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district administration has planned a special grievance redressal meeting for students, who completed Class XII, to ensure that all eligible students join higher education without procedural hurdles. The meeting will be held by the second week of July. In the previous academic year, 11,058 govt school students in the district completed Class XII, of whom 10,555 secured admissions in various higher education institutions, taking the district’s higher education enrolment rate to 95.45%, ranked first in the state in higher education enrolment. To ensure 100% enrolment for the current batch of Class XII pass-outs, the district has appointed 114 senior officials, including the collector, corporation commissioner, additional collector, sub-collector, revenue officials and the chief educational officer, to coordinate and monitor admissions. Special focus will be given to students with disabilities, SC/ST students, orphans and students from single-parent families. A higher education guidance counselling centre was established at the district collectorate under the school education department. Students and parents can approach the centre directly or contact 9487047568, 9788858529 and 8754898863 for guidance on admissions, course selection, scholarships, and govt and private institution intake. Information is also being provided on arts and science, engineering, agriculture, law, medicine, polytechnic and ITI admissions, education loans and the 7.5% reservation category. The proposed grievance meeting will address issues related to transfer certificates, education loans, documentation delays and admission-related clarifications, with departmental officials present to facilitate on-the-spot resolutions. Higher education guidance counselling centre officials said for select health science courses, online applications for the 2026-27 academic year would open on June 21 and close at 5pm on July 3. The admissions cover govt medical college seats and govt quota seats in self-financing colleges for BSc nursing, BPharm, bachelor in audiology and speech language pathology (BASLP), bachelor in prosthetics and orthotics (BPO), allied and healthcare UG degree courses, diploma in general nursing and midwifery (DGNM) and diploma in pharmacy.
