Chennai: Madras high court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a plea moved by former DMK minister Durai Murugan seeking to reject the plaint of the election petition challenging his election in 2021 from Katpadi Assembly constituency.Concluding the final hearing, Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan reserved his orders. According to the plea moved by V Ramu, the AIADMK candidate who lost the election to Durai Murugan by a margin of 746 votes, Durai Murugan was declared as elected in total violation and non-compliance of the Representation of People Act and the Conduct of Election Rules.He alleged that votes polled in a particular polling station (110A) were never counted leading to the victory of Durai Murugan.Therefore, he wanted the court to declare the election as void and order reverification and recount of all votes polled by postal ballot in Katpadi constituency. As a consequence, the petitioner wanted the court to declare him as the elected candidate from the constituency.
