Erode: Branded activewear manufacturer TechnoSport is planning to expand its capacity to 40 tonnes, or roughly 1.5 lakh garment units a day, over the next six months. Supported by the Centre’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles, the company operates an integrated facility at Perundurai in Erode district, close to the Tiruppur industrial cluster. TechnoSport manufactures over 90% of its fabrics in-house handling knitting, dyeing, and processing of man-made fibres, along with design, while relying on partners for garmenting.Sunil Jhunjhunwala, managing director and co-founder of TechnoSport, said the brand is focused on delivering comfort at affordable price points. He projected revenue to increase to Rs 1,000 crore this financial year, up from Rs 600 crore last year. Highlighting the impact of the PLI program, Jhunjhunwala noted that it has accelerated the company’s growth and raised its ambitions in technical textiles. He added that TechnoSport’s core strategy remains heavily centered on engineered design, technical textiles, and fabric modifications.Previously a family-held operation functioning as a network of interdependent businesses, TechnoSport received a $20 million capital infusion in 2024 from private equity firm A91 Partners, industrialist KM Subramanian, and others. The company is likely to tap the public markets in the next five years. To support this scale, the brand is adopting an omnichannel distribution strategy that includes its exclusive brand outlets, according to CEO Puspen Maity. Noting that supply currently remains the primary constraint to growth, he projected a sustained capacity expansion of 40% to 50% annually.“What we are witnessing is a fundamental, post-COVID generational shift where consumers are heavily prioritizing everyday comfort,” Maity said. “Capitalizing on this momentum, we have strategically positioned our brand to offer premium technical activewear at highly disruptive price points as it allows us to tap a significantly wider addressable market across diverse geographies, including in tier 2, tier 3, and smaller towns across India.”While TechnoSport currently has a minimal international footprint, it aims to increase its export revenue next year, initially targeting the Middle East and Southeast Asia.(The reporter was in Erode at the invitation of the company)
