77 rounded up in anti-narcotics crackdown in Chennai

Chennai: Chennai police registered 38 cases and rounded up 77 persons during a week-long anti-narcotics crackdown conducted across the city between June 14 and June 20. The operation was carried out by the special teams headed by assistant commissioners and inspectors, under the supervision of deputy commissioners of police (DCP) across 12 police districts, intensified surveillance and enforcement against individuals involved in the possession, transportation, storage and sale of narcotic substances.Police said the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) also monitored drug peddlers, synthetic drug suppliers and their associates, gathering intelligence and assisting local police stations in identifying and apprehending suspects.During the special drive, station-level police teams conducted vehicle checks and surveillance operations at key strategic locations across the city, which resulted in the seizure of 22kg of ganja, 831 grams of methamphetamine, 6mg of opium, 2mg of cocaine and 1,222 narcotic tablets. Police also recovered ₹1.04 lakh in cash believed to be linked to narcotics transactions.In addition, four two-wheelers, one auto-rickshaw, one car and five mobile phones were seized during the operation.
