CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu govt on Saturday appointed acclaimed cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa as the president of the Tamil Nadu Government MGR Film and Television Institute and Television Institute in Taramani, replacing reputed artist Trotsky Marudu, who was appointed as the institute’s president by the previous DMK govt in 2024. Manoj Paramahasma is an alumnus of the same institute, where he pursued cinematography.He has worked as cinematographer in 25 films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industry and helmed the incumbent chief minister C Joseph Vijay in three movies – Nanban, Beast and Leo. The state govt has constituted a selection committee to enrol students for bachelor of visual arts courses this year in cinematography, audiography, screenplay writing and direction, film editing, animation and visual effects. The 10-member committee comprises noted film directors Vetrimaran, Lingusamy, Perarasu, cinematographers R Velrajan, Vijay Milton, editor Srikar Prasad and experts from other streams of filmmaking.
