Toddler dies after bike crash in Chengalpet

Chennai: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed and his parents sustained serious injuries after a motorcycle crashed near Thiruporur in Chengalpet district on Tuesday evening. The accident happened as the mother’s dupatta got entangled in the vehicle’s rear wheel.The toddler was identified as Visagan, son of Pushparaj ,29, and Pavithra ,23, residents of Ammanambakkam village near Thirukazhukundram. According to police, the family was travelling from Thirukazhukundram to Thiruporur on a motorcycle and the child was sitting on his mother’s lap. While passing through Manamathi village on the Thirukazhukundram–Thiruporur Road, Pavithra’s dupatta got caught in the vehicle’s rear wheel.Pushparaj lost control of the motorcycle, and all three occupants were thrown onto the road and Visagan sustained head injuries. Passersby alerted the police, and the victims were rushed to the Thiruporur Government Hospital.Doctors declared Visagan dead on arrival. Pushparaj and Pavithra, who suffered severe injuries, were later referred to the Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.The Thiruporur police have registered a case and sent the child’s body for a postmortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
