CHENNAI: Former Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal resigned as the first chairman of the Tamil Nadu Fire Commission on Wednesday. His resignation came amid a series of departures by retired senior police officers holding key govt positions in the state.Along with Jiwal, three members of the Tamil Nadu Fire Commission—Vikraman, Sathyamurthy and Namachivayam—also submitted their resignations.In a separate development, former DGP Sunil Kumar resigned from his post as chairman of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB).The officers had been appointed to their respective posts during the previous DMK government. The resignations came amid administrative changes following the formation of the new government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.Sources said the state government had initiated steps to relieve officials holding certain high-ranking statutory and administrative positions, including the posts of Information Commissioner, TNUSRB board chairman and Tamil Nadu Fire Commission chairman.No official statement was immediately issued regarding the reasons for the resignations. Government sources indicated that the process of appointing successors to the vacant positions would be taken up in due course.
